ALPLA teams make their mark on World Environment Day 2025
As part of World Environment Day 2025, ALPLA employees got involved in over 100 activities around the globe from May to October to promote environmental protection. Under the slogan ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’, they set an example against plastic pollution and for sustainable action – with clean-ups, planting campaigns and creative ideas for the conscious use of resources.
Working together worldwide
World Environment Day, proclaimed by the United Nations, takes place every year on 5 June and is considered one of the most important global platforms for environmental awareness and sustainable action. In 2025, the theme of the day of action was ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’, a call to stop plastic pollution and promote circular solutions.
ALPLA also used this occasion to highlight its employees’ commitment to environmental and climate protection. From May to October 2025, 102 activities took place worldwide, involving more than 3,000 employees.
Whether it was litter collection campaigns, energy workshops or planting campaigns, teams everywhere showed commitment and creativity for a clean environment.
A total of 19,000 kilograms of waste was collected, an impressive result that highlights the global impact of many local initiatives. The contributions were spread across all ALPLA regions, from Western and Eastern Europe (38), Africa, the Middle East and Turkey (14), and Asia-Pacific (7) to South America (12) and Mexico and Central America (38). ‘Every year, our employees prove that sustainability is practised at ALPLA all over the world – in the form of team spirit, responsibility and many small actions with a big impact,’ says Katharina Böhler, Corporate Sustainability Specialist at ALPLA, delighted with the numerous projects.
Three inspiring projects are presented in more detail as examples of the diverse commitment of ALPLA employees:
La Valencia, Costa Rica – Reforestation campaign
A reforestation day took place in the Parque de Desarrollo Humano in the Alajuelita district, with the participation of 35 people. Trees and pollinator-friendly plants were planted to create habitats for birds, butterflies, and bees, contributing to the ecological enhancement of the area. The initiative supports the preservation and expansion of green spaces and reflects a commitment to environmental awareness and sustainable development. The area is thus being given a second chance, providing long-term benefits for the local community.
Mijdrecht, Netherlands – Zero pellet loss as a common goal
The Dutch plant in Mijdrecht focused on the topic of ‘zero pellet loss’. After an introduction to the concept, teams developed measures to prevent plastic loss in workshops and brainstorming sessions. Employees then collected pellets during a clean-up campaign inside and outside the plant to emphasise their responsibility for clean production environments.
Taicang, China – Focus on energy efficiency
At one Taicang plant in China, the focus was on reducing energy consumption. In a series of workshops, employees exchanged ideas on saving electricity and energy, developed ideas and identified specific opportunities for improvement in the plant. At the same time, a clean-up campaign took place on the factory premises – another contribution to the responsible use of resources.
The activities of ALPLA employees on World Environment Day 2025 impressively demonstrate that sustainability at ALPLA is not only part of the corporate strategy, but is also practised in everyday work worldwide. The projects prove that the commitment and creativity of employees are crucial to advancing the circular economy and resource conservation.
