3,120 ALPLA employees worldwide are setting an example for the environment

Whether through litter picking, tree planting, environmental education projects or initiatives to promote biodiversity: in the course of World Environment Day 2026, ALPLA employees around the world demonstrated how local engagement can make a positive contribution to the environment and society.

82 sites took part

A total of 3,120 employees at 82 ALPLA sites took part in a wide variety of activities. These ranged from litter-picking campaigns and reforestation projects to environmental education initiatives and sustainable community projects. Together, they collected 9,657 kilograms of waste and planted 1,981 trees. Once fully grown, these trees are estimated to sequester around 20 tonnes of CO₂ per year.

“The high level of participation shows that, at ALPLA, our employees worldwide are actively taking responsibility for our climate and our environment. Every contribution counts, and many small actions together make a big difference.”

Linda Staib, Senior Corporate Sustainability Manager

Making a big difference together

The commitment shown in the Mexico, Central America and Caribbean region was particularly impressive, with over 1,800 employees taking part in various activities at more than 40 locations. Together, they collected around 8,000 kilograms of waste and planted over 1,100 trees. The projects ranged from beach clean-ups in Puerto Rico and Mexico to reforestation efforts in the Dominican Republic and the restoration of mangrove areas in Panama.

Trees for Vietnam’s coastal landscape

In Vietnam, ALPLA employees worked alongside local partners and volunteers to enhance public green spaces. In the Mui Nghinh Phong Scenic Area in Vung Tau, 120 tropical almond trees were planted. The initiative helps to create shaded areas, enhance the coastal landscape and make the region more resilient to the effects of changing weather conditions. A total of around 100 people took part in the initiative.

Embedding recycling in everyday life for the long term

At six ALPLA sites in Argentina, the focus was not only on World Environment Day itself, but also on how sustainable behaviour can be promoted in the long term. Around 150 employees took part in environmental and awareness-raising activities. In addition, so-called recycling totems were installed, allowing used PET bottles to be fed directly into the recycling cycle. The initiative was accompanied by information and awareness-raising sessions on environmental protection and resource conservation. As a result, the project has an impact far beyond the day of the campaign and supports sustainable habits in everyday life.

Raising environmental awareness

In the United Kingdom, too, traditional environmental activities were complemented by a creative idea. Alongside litter-picking campaigns and tree-planting initiatives, the team organised an environmental poster competition for employees’ children. The young participants explored environmental and sustainability issues in a creative way. As a result, the topic of environmental awareness was not only highlighted at ALPLA sites, but also carried into employees’ families.

Small contributions with a big impact

These examples from various regions are representative of numerous other initiatives worldwide, in which the ALPLA teams have once again demonstrated that commitment to sustainability can take many forms.
