Pump pioneer: mono-material is well received

In October 2024, ALPLA presented a fully recyclable downlock dispenser pump made of one material. Few of the first global brand manufacturers are now launching the innovative solution in standard and tailor-made design. With the next mono-material product innovation and future production in Central America, the pump business in the injection moulding division ALPLAinject is growing.

ALPLAinject manufactures dispenser pumps for the cosmetics and personal care industry.

ALPLA manufactures dispenser pumps for the cosmetics and personal care industry entirely from plastic (polypropylene) – including springs. The patented mono-material solution is fully recyclable and already meets the regulatory requirements of the future. Thanks to the downlock function, the dispenser saves space on the shelf and during transport. The pump head, closure and colour can be customised. The system is available in two nominal capacities of 2 and 4 ml.

Almost two years after its presentation at Beautyworld Middle East 2024 in Dubai, ALPLA is producing the first series for global brand manufacturers. "The concept was convincing all along the line and passed all tests. Now we are starting with visionary customers in the USA and the target markets in Europe," says Sree Hari R Nair, Global Head of Business Pumps and Devices. The interest is great and should increase through the role model effect. "Many multinational corporations want to change their portfolios in the coming years. We already have a safe, affordable and sustainable solution for this today. If mono-material becomes the standard, local and regional customers will also switch," Nair is convinced. Most multi national companies have set themselves the sustainability goal of switching entirely to mono-material plastic pumps by 2030.

Focus in India

In the previous year, ALPLA fully integrated it’s manufacturing footprint into the Group. Since then, in addition to the conventional pumps, the mono-material variants have also been manufactured in Hyderabad, India. The specialized location now bundles all competencies under one roof. "We want to be even closer to our customers, while remaining competitive. We have achieved this with the move from South Korea to India. In order to serve our customers even better, we are also planning to establish production capacities in Central America in the near future," says Michael Feltes, Managing Director of the injection moulding division ALPLAinject.

Added value with mono-material

Parallel to scaling up the dispenser pumps, Sree Hari R Nair and his team are working on further mono-material solutions for pump applications. The next new product will be presented at Beautyworld Middle East from 6 to 8 October 2026 in Dubai.
