ALPLA and CCL Label present new PET beverage can
Safe enjoyment: ALPLA and CCL Label have created a stackable PET beverage can with a full-body shrink sleeve. The two internationally active packaging specialists thus offer a quickly scalable alternative to the aluminium can. The packaging solution can be flexibly decorated. It relies on the proven material properties of transparent PET without additional coatings and is recyclable. The closure protects against possible contaminants and insects. This reduces the cleaning effort during recycling.
ALPLA and CCL Label have developed a transparent PET beverage can with a matching recyclable full-body shrink sleeve .
The PET can from ALPLA and CCL Label combines the advantages of transparent plastic and the look of metal. It does not require a BPA-containing epoxy coating on the inside, is recyclable and can be integrated into existing PET filling lines. The stackable 0.33-litre bottle in can format also scores visually with its 360-degree decoration surface in the form of a shrink sleeve, silver effect and mirror finish.
With the PET can, the two internationally active packaging specialists offer a safe, cost-efficient and future-proof solution for beverage manufacturers. It enriches the range and supports the changeover of the containers. Since July 2026, many food packaging containing bisphenol – especially disposable packaging – may no longer be placed on the market in the EU.
As specialists, ALPLA and CCL Label can quickly scale production and thus ensure product availability. "A beverage can may just as well be made of plastic. Our PET can relies on the well-known material properties of transparent PET, which have proven themselves on the market, strengthens the supply chain and can highlight special products as a novelty," says Daniel Lehner, Global Sales Director Food & Beverage at ALPLA.
Recyclable
Compact, future-ready and cleverly packaged: The beverage container can also be made from PET recycled material (rPET) for additional CO2 savings and fits into the existing "bottle-to-bottle" cycle. The tethered cap is new to the can segment and offers advantages thanks to its resealability. There is also less contamination and insects cannot get inside, which is helpful when collecting at home or at deposit machines in stores.
Maximal recyclability is made possible by the detachable EcoFloat® shrink sleeve from CCL Label. The specially developed label made of low-density PO (polyolefin) reliably separates from the PET flakes in the recycling process. At the same time, the full-surface decoration offers great design freedom with a high-quality metallic look and a strong shelf effect. Since the sleeve is only applied after filling, beverage manufacturers can make production and design more flexible. PET preforms and sleeves require significantly less storage and transport capacity than prefabricated empty cans.
"We stand for safe and modern packaging solutions worldwide. The PET can combines these features and enables our customers to have a seamless and long-term supply," emphasizes Daniel Lehner. The solution from ALPLA and CCL Label is now available.
