Welcome to our latest blog post in the ‘People at ALPLA’ series, where we highlight the stories of ALPLA team members from all over the world. This time we have the pleasure of interviewing Vanessa Mendieta, an HR Business Partner and a valued member of our team in Mexico. Vanessa shares her insights on her role, the impact of ALPLA’s products, and offers valuable advice for new employees.

Hi Vanessa, thanks for taking the time to talk to us. How would you describe your job to a child?

Imagine you are in a school with many children, each one has different needs, some need support to study, others to get along better with their classmates, others to solve problems with their teachers. The Human Resources Business Partner in a company would be the person who helps the “children” or the employees of the company to find all the tools to do their “homework” or work better, to feel comfortable in their team. The “teachers” or the leaders know how to deal with all the employees to help them to get the best version of themselves and work in harmony.

What do you find most interesting about working at ALPLA?

I love working at ALPLA because it is a world-leading company – many people have touched one of our products. That allows us to have contact with other people in the world to continue developing global projects that leave a great impact on employees.

You are part of the ALPLA Ambassador program: – why do you believe people should strive to become part of ALPLA?

Because at ALPLA you have the opportunity to grow professionally in a global environment with many possibilities to develop skills. Besides being a company that offers job stability, you have the opportunity to share with global teams to leave your mark with high-impact projects.

What advice would you give to new employees?

Rest assured that you are in a great company to work for. Give your best and the rewards will come in time.

What does a typical day at work look like for you?

I arrive at my workplace and greet my work team – whom I consider to be friends as well as great work colleagues. I review the most important emails to give a timely response, later I have meetings with managers of different areas to support them in solving issues on the management of their teams.

I also ask for support from Nabi, who is part of my team, to help me with some important tasks and I give her support when she needs it. She is very smart and learns fast so I value her work very much.

So, let us get to know you better: What are you doing if you are not convincing people to join the family of pioneers?

I love to know people’s back story, I think everyone has had to go through a lot of good and bad experiences so I am interested in getting to know them. And if I can help with any advice, listening or just offering quality time, I am available.

Where is your favourite place on earth?

Where my siblings, boyfriend and dogs are close to me.

If you had to eat one meal every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I would say the pozole my sister cooks 😊. Pozole is a traditional Mexican dish. It is a kind of spicy soup made from a special corn called cacahuazintle. This corn is large and round. Pozole usually includes meat, like pork or chicken.

Name four things on your bucket list.

  • I would like to invite my siblings to the beach because they are older than me and many times they invited me, so now it’s my turn 😉.
  • Travel to Thailand.
  • I would like to visit Niagara Falls.
  • Throw a coin in the Trevi Fountain.

What should I have asked you?

Maybe you could have asked me about a personal project I have.

Ok, sounds interesting: Do you have a personal project?

Now I have a plan with my boyfriend, which is to visit the 112 Magical Towns of Mexico. We have a map where we mark with pins the places we’ve visited together, and so far we’ve been to 46. We still have a few left, but we will make it!

Thanks for taking your time.
