New Learning & Development Hub in Iowa City
The ALPLA Group has opened a new Learning & Development Hub in Iowa City, underlining its strong commitment to workforce development and the advancement of manufacturing expertise across North America.

At the official opening ceremony, ALPLA CEO Philipp Lehner, CTO Klaus Allgäuer and Regional Managing Director for North America Tasos Pourloukakis welcomed, among others, the Mayor of Iowa City, Bruce Teague, and the Austrian Ambassador, Dr Petra Schneebauer. Together, they emphasised the importance of close partnerships between the business community and the public sector in building a strong regional workforce.
Investing in skills and the future
The new centre will bring together three key areas: apprenticeship programmes, technical training and leadership development. ALPLA CEO Philipp Lehner highlighted the significance of establishing the first hub of its kind in North America, which represents a major milestone in ALPLA’s regional growth and talent strategy and combines practical training with theoretical learning and state-of-the-art facilities.
At the heart of the Hub is ALPLA’s paid, three-year apprenticeship programme, which will be based at the facility. In addition, employees will have access to industry-certified training opportunities to continuously expand their skills.
“Highly skilled specialists are essential to our success,” said Tasos Pourloukakis, Regional Managing Director NOAM. “This integrated approach creates meaningful opportunities to strengthen manufacturing expertise within ALPLA and the broader industry.”
Global expertise, locally applied
The Learning & Development Hub has been developed in close collaboration with ALPLA’s global team in Austria. Apprentices benefit from training on state-of-the-art equipment while earning a fully funded degree alongside competitive compensation.
Existing employees will also benefit from expanded opportunities for upskilling and professional development, supporting individual career pathways within the company.
“As the first programme of its kind in North America, this Hub reflects ALPLA’s commitment to developing talent and building sustainable career pathways,” said Mirna Morcos, Director of Human Resources at ALPLA NOAM.

With this investment, ALPLA is not only strengthening its own capabilities, but also contributing to regional economic development. The initiative is expected to create new career opportunities, attract further business and support long-term growth in the area.
