Local, dual, ideal: ALPLA launches apprenticeship scheme in Thailand
Plastics shape the future. For more than 65 years, ALPLA has been training its own skilled workers using the dual apprenticeship model. Young people learn theoretical specialist knowledge at school and gain practical experience in the production plant. ALPLA is gradually exporting the concept, established in Austria and Germany, to other countries. Following China, India, Mexico, Poland, Romania, South Africa and the USA, the “Family of Pioneers” has now also launched its own training programme in Thailand.
Three 18-year-olds have started their vocational training as plastics technicians at ALPLA in Thailand.
“The market for technical talent is highly competitive. That is why we at ALPLA are actively shaping and nurturing our team of tomorrow and strengthening local expertise. As a global technology market leader, we create diverse opportunities for young people,” explains Daniel Qiu, General Manager of ALPLA Thailand.
The programme is being implemented in cooperation with the Thai-Austrian Technical College in Chonburi and forms part of the long-term expansion strategy in the Southeast Asian country. In early 2025, ALPLA opened a state-of-the-art plant in Chachoengsao, near Bangkok, for the manufacture and development of plastic packaging solutions. Another site is located in Prachinburi. Together with joint venture partner PTT Global Chemical, ALPLA also operates the ENVICCO recycling plant in Rayong province.
Kick-off with three young people
At the start of May, three 18-year-olds began their vocational training as plastics technicians. Following the first year’s foundation course at the college, they are expected to join ALPLA in Chachoengsao in mid-2027. By then, a suitable learning environment based on the “Future Corner” principle will have been integrated into the plant. “We are already looking forward to welcoming these new recruits and will continue to invest in vocational training. The number of apprenticeship places and trades is set to be gradually expanded in the coming years,” announced Daniel Qiu.
